Wolverhampton West Side

Wolverhampton’s west side is one of the main gates to the city centre. It is also one of the most deprived areas. The reason for this is its disconnection, both physically and visually, from the rest of the city by the ring-road which acts as a wall around it.
The master-plan’s goal is to reconnect the area bypassing the ring-road and create public space. On the other hand the proposal understands the need for a ring-road and the importance the car has within the surrounding urban sprawl. Instead of fighting against the vehicles the master-plan embraces it as part of the scheme and creates an experience both for the driver and pedestrian as an act of reconciliation.
A museum dedicated to the relationship between cars and the city on the ringroad itself makes the marriage between pedestrians and vehicles tangible.
